I like to call Cullman a “Big Little Town.” We’ve experienced so much growth in the past few years welcoming in many chain retailers and restaurants, but we still have managed to keep that small town charm. In Cullman people still wave and greet you with a sincere, “Hey! How are ya?” Check out the full video for my list of 7 reasons to love Cullman, Alabama, or if you’re more of a reader…just keep on, keeping on.

So you’ve heard all the buzz about Cullman, Alabama and you’re thinking about making a move. Cullman is a great little town in North Central Alabama and it’s personally my favorite my favorite. I was born and raised right here in Cullman, and now I’m realtor helping other families buy and sell right here in my home town. Maybe you’ve heard of Cullman or maybe you haven’t, but as a native, current resident, and realtor I can go on and on and tell you all the fabulous things about my city, but today I’m gonna give you seven reasons why you should consider moving to Cullman, Alabama.

Honestly when I was in high school staying in Cullman was not part of the plan. I couldn’t wait to get out of the small town and see what the big world had to offer. But now that I’m raising my own family I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. Which brings me to the number one reason why you should consider living in Cullman…

#1: Voted One of the Top Cities to Raise a Family in Alabama

It was also voted one of the best small town in America to raise kids. Cullman is a great place to raise a family! We have a growing economy, a great school system, low crime rates, clear air quality, and so many parks and amenities for your family to enjoy all throughout the year. Cullman is truly one of the best places in Alabama to raise your kids.

#2: Friendly Town

My second reason is…Cullman is a very friendly town. The county of Cullman covers over 755 square miles in North Central Alabama with a total population of around 80,000 people (that the WHOLE county y’all). So you get that down-home small town feel. It’s one of those towns where as you drive down the street people are going to wave, they’re going to speak to you in the grocery store, and they’ll probably even gonna ask “How’s ya Momma and’em.

#3: Economic Growth

Cullman continues to see great economic growth year over year. In 2019 there were 40 new and expanding companies in our small town. That created 483 new job and over $162 million in new and expanding investments. We continue to see the same growth year and year again and with all of this growth that means that there’s a ton of new job opportunities for people moving in to Cullman. Cullman is also known to be a very welcoming community that highly supports locally owned businesses.

#4: LOCATION

If you live in a larger metropolitan city and you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle that comes with a big city life, and you want to come to a smaller town, Cullman is your place to go. We’re located right up Interstate 65. We’re an easy commute just about anywhere in Alabama. A great bonus is we are located right in the middle of two of the largest metropolitan cities in Alabama, Huntsville and Birmingham. Cullman is located about 55 miles south of Huntsville and 50 miles north of Birmingham. So you’re quick commute to either city if you want to grab a nice dinner and have a date night, or if you’re commuting for work. We have many residence that live in here in Cullman, but they commute back-and-forth to Huntsville or Birmingham for work because we’re only about a 50 minute to an hour drive either direction.

#5: Affordability

The cost of living here in Cullman is around 12% lower than the national average. And housing is 27% lower than the national average. The median home cost for Cullman County is $131,500. So as you can see, it is extremely affordable to live in Cullman compared to some other cities in Alabama and Nationally.

#6: Smith Lake

Smith Lake is one of my favorite things about Cullman, Alabama, and where you’ll find me most days out of the Summer. Smith like is one of the largest man-made lakes in North America it stretches over 21,200 acres and it actually covers over three counties, Cullman, Walker, and Winston County. There’s over 500 miles of shoreline and it’s over 200 feet deep on the larger bodies of water. It is the cleanest, clear, deep, emerald water this side of the Mississippi, and it is the perfect outing for families. Smith Lake is great for boating and water sports like skiing, wake surfing, and paddle boarding and it’s even widely known to many fishermen. It’s known for common catches like stripe, big mouth bass, crappie, brim and so many more.

You can visit Smith Lake with your family for the day, or you can take your family for the weekend. There are accommodations to rent a cabin, camp at a local camp ground, or stay at the Smith Lake Bed and Breakfast. Or you can just make a day trip out of it and visit Smith Lake Park and enjoy the lake. There you can launch your boat and go boating for the day or weekend, or you can actually own your very own piece of waterfront property right here in Cullman, Alabama.

#7: Food & Festivals

Cullman is home to many amazing restaurants. and maybe even a few famous ones as well. We have people that travel from all surrounding counties just to come and enjoy our food and festivities.Whether you’re looking for a great steak, a hearty sandwich or a sweet treat, Cullman has something for everyones pallet.
